A recent article by the Today Show (link) highlights that perhaps that daily glass of red wine to wind down isn't the best for our bodies.
"Women need an intervention," one mom wrote about women's drinking habits.
That nightly glass of wine is of course a known calming tool used for centuries by - well - everyone around the world. Since the start of COVID data shows that is even more the case today than ever before. But, let's be honest - as we know, that may not be the best solution for our bodies which recent researcher is shedding further light on.
The Today article quotes Dawn Sugarman, Ph.D., a research psychologist in the division of alcohol, drugs and addiction at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts who states that women actually have increased their alcohol consumption at a higher rate than men during the pandemic, particularly their heavy drinking days — those when they have four or more drinks within a couple hours.
The health effects for women can be especially concerning because they absorb and metabolize alcohol differently than men, so the alcohol stays in a woman’s body longer, increasing the risk of liver disease, heart disease and certain cancers, she added.
I knew alcohol obviously wasn't great for me - but I also didn't realize it to this degree.
Let's be honest though - the stresses aren't going away. The world feels like it's only speeding up. I found that the full-spectrum CBD gummy was a great substitute for that glass of wine in the evening.
Try it yourself - see if it's a fit for your lifestyle.
